Jon and I went on a 3 day backpacking trip with some friends over the Memorial Day weekend.  I would post some pictures if I had taken any.  I was pretty much on “trying not to get my self killed” mode the whole time.  I think it was probably one of the most rewarding things I have and will be doing all year.  Most everything that happened will be for another blog on another day. So what does this have to do with food? you ask…

When you have to lug up 3 days worth of food (luckily not me) and 4 liters of water for about 30 miles in 3 days, you’re just happy to have a hot meal at the end of the day.  A chunk of salami and cheese on flat bread becomes the best sandwich you have ever had, and a box of pasta from Target with chucks of summer sausage is the best pasta you have come to appreciate (especially when you didn’t have to cook it).  It’s all relative.
